News: THE controversial 'locals only' and 'must speak Irish' planning rules have been challenged by the EU as illegal and discriminatory.
A landmark EU ruling yesterday will test the Fianna Fail/Greens coalition as the parties are poles apart on the issue of one-off houses in the countryside.
The move will put serious pressure on 22 local authorities to abandon their 'locals only' policies when granting planning permissions.

We started digging the foundations in November and with all the bad weather etc it was a slow start. We are building on a hill so had to put a 7ft retaining wall at the back. We are putting the concrete floor in on tuesday and so far its been okay. Got a bradstone finish on the and I would recommend that anyone thinking of it to do their research properly and estimate the cost precisley as we got caught out and had to pay more also it worked out more expensive than natural stone for us. Not a happy lil house builder. Anyway the builders are really slow it took them 4 weeks to get it up to the first floor and they still havent gotcompletely to that level. It is a squarehouse with two bay windows nothing fancy. They are doing my nut they are gone away now to another job for two weeks so we wont see them and If they dont get cracking they willbe going and I will get another builder to finish. Sorry for the rant. Anyway. we are in full flightand seeminglythis is the easy stage if so i am dreading the rest. Best of luck to all you other builers.

Hi Bootz

Almost six months since you started this topic, looks like it's had many reads but no replies.

I am hoping to start building in the near future and I am wondering whether you have managed any progress since your builder problems in February or have you abandoned the whole project in disgust?

I don't wish to be nosey, just my way of showing sympathy with your plight and maybe with that of many others.
